When I ordered this to expand my memory from 8 to 12 Gig's I neglected to download Speccy from piriform.com to check what was already in my machine. What I had were three filled RAM slots, one set of (2) paired (dual channel) 2 Gigs and (1) 4 Gig. D'Oh! Not a problem as I have a friend who had a specific need for this type of RAM so we did a trade for his excess blank DVD's which I am using on yet another project. So in summary, if you want to double up on your RAM in a Dell Optiplex 780, you need two sets of dual-channel paired 4 Gig cards. The easiest way to do that is just order a whole set of (2) pair of dual-channeled 4 Gig memory cards. My consolation prize was Speccy also informed me that I needed the B15 update of my BIOS. Slamming that in doubled or more my processor speed overall so it is all good.
I have been able to assemble 3 very good working computers out of salvaged parts from Discount Electronics. Even asked a question through email and received the answer that I needed to continue and eventually solved the issue and now it works. Does anybody know the life expectancy of electronic parts? I'll venture to say some of the parts may never wear out. anyway.....good stuff!!!!! A family of eight now has 3 working computers at no cost to them and little to me. As a hobby? NOT BAD.
Yes I did receive it thank you works great.
No complaints, works.
